Teaching and Learning SummaryIn 2020-2021, classes looked like this whether you were the teacher or the learner. Some of my classmates I have never met in real life and we live in the same city and we were in the same class in the same year. It has been a difficult year for everyone. But life goes on.
Over the past year, we have participated in multiple lectures, field days, guest speakers, and many games of Kahoot. We have tried a lot of different online tools which have been very helpful in designing our own online classes (the only kind of classes that we have been able to have). This past year has gone quite differently than what most of us expected, even the lecturers of the course. But it went quite well for me. I came into this course wanting to specialise in online learning & teaching even though that was not the specific point of this programme. What I got was a baptism-by-fire experience. Because now, because of Coronavirus, everyone was in a way “specialising” in online learning & teaching. Other than 3 days in a classroom together, every learning experience we had was an experience in online learning. There are many questions still open that I will have my career to explore, but this experience has helped me to identify the questions I need to ask and how to ask them in an informed way. This course has helped me solidify my understanding of what it means to be a teacher and how learning happens. This is a great foundation for me to scaffold my own skills that I already have and that I am yet to learn. |
